About this deal

Like your current setup, I only have 2 140mm fans at the bottom, as the tubes/hoses from the AIO and the radiator is obstructing the last slot. Since Intel’s 12 Gen “Alder Lake” has shaken up the desktop landscape (and taken prominent spots on our best CPUs for gaming list), we’ve updated our case testing hardware. We’re now using an Intel i7-12700KF, which is being cooled by a Noctua U12s air cooler. Our graphics card is a Gigabyte RTX 3070 Ti Gaming OC.

Fractal Design Torrent Compact Review: Cool and Compact

For cooling, the Fractal Torrent ships with two front-mounted 180mm intake fans and three bottom-mounted 140mm intake fans. That’s five large fans for airflow, which is a big deal for anyone that’s investing in air cooling.I take that 76° GPU temps under load is to be monitored, so I will test the "option 1 - AIO config" but with bottom 180 fans going out and remove the air filter. CPU temps you can take at face value, that you won't be able to brute-force, or differently optimize much better, but GPU temp is another matter. Taking GPU temp for the standardized + noise-normalized test and cross-referencing it is a good clue what to expect, but figuring out the pros and cons of your own setup you can optimized it way further. It's just that it is physically impossible to standardize a methodology that replicates how much each user can optimized their setup with better static pressure fans, and better taped around and parts removed from their case, there's just too many variables. Firstly, this is just one chart of many tests, so this isnt the "be all end all" for the case being "Bad GPU temps". My guess has nothing to do with volume of the case or it's materials (Seriously?), but more to do with the airflow principle. air must come in and flow out.

Our acoustic test consists of three scenarios: We run the CPU at full load, the CPU and GPU at full load and an optimized idle. The CPU full load test runs the CPU and case fans at their maximum speed. For the CPU and GPU full load acoustic test, we also stress the Gigabyte RTX 3070 Ti Gaming OC and set the fans at 75% speed, because in gaming the fans never run at 100% and are far too loud when they do. The Fractal Design Torrent Case is an interesting case and I can see a lot of potentials as far as Modding goes. What I see here is a large case that has removable panels on each side with clear tempered glass on the side. The bottom front and top bezels of this case are all made from the same ABS plastic material. The finish of the plastic is not smooth but rather matte. Being white, everything that touches this case will leave a mark. So if you plan to use this case for Modding I would recommend painting it or at least clear coating the bezels. If you are extremely careful with the case then you would not have to worry about blemishes or marks. I am running a 10900K with RTX 3070 Ti FE, on that case and my temperatures are pretty darn good. Normally my room temperatures are 68F to 70F. After running my PC for a little while, the room was at 73F. I ran a test and got about 51.5C on Average, with 70C holding most of the time and in some occasion jumping to 77C Max. My RTX 3070 Ti FE, was on Avg 55.8C and in some occasional hitting 81.5C Max. These are during spike, which last a second. I cannot pull these on the Corsair 680X using an AIO, which of course I had about almost the same low to idle temperatures when the computer was not in use of 27C-to-33C with the AIO while the air cooler was about 33C to 35C. Keep in mind the room was already warm so the air temperatures could be lower during idle if the system was not running. Edit: as for 120mm fans mentions, it was a mistake on my side, there is not 120mm fans only 140 and 180, it has been correctedeither put the 38mm depth radiator inside the 140mm fans panel (in front of the radiator at the right of the last picture), Alongside their new Torrent case, Fractal has released an update for their existing Ion Platinum series of power supplies. These new PSU models comply with the new ATX 2.52 standard and all ship with two 8-pin ATX12/EPS connectors and enhanced over-current protection.
