Now select your abilty level, the amount in cms at the bottom of your ability level is added to or subtracted from your starting length. Also, there seems to be potential for wear along the main seam that joins the glove together at the fingertips, though I didn’t experience any while testing. (And Hestra did change the layout of the seams for better reinforcement last season.)

If you have questions about a different model, or you simply want a second opinion before choosing a pair for yourself, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at the shop. We’re always here to help. About Campman Hestra makes over 400 different styles of gloves and mittens. We think the newly redesigned Fall Line 3-Finger Glove might be the best of the bunch. It's 2023, so why wouldn't you want touch-screen sensitivity on your ski gloves? A number of manufacturers now offer exactly that (including The North Face's Montana), so that you can snap photos or videos without taking your gloves off. You'll most often find the technology, however, on thin gloves and liners where it's easier to incorporate, plus the thinner liners are more precise when typing. On some models, only pointer fingers and thumbs are touch-screen compatible. Overall, we consider this a nice feature if a model you like has it, but it's not the first factor we consider in selecting a glove. The Burton Gore-Tex glove is compatible with smartphone screens The Wakayama gloves let you flash some old school style without having to resort to your vintage onesie. The glove is perfect for mild days, as the leather shell is mated to a wool terry lining, adding a bit more warmth than you’d expect from a non-insulated option. The mitten gets beefed up with PrimaLoft® Gold synthetic insulation, making it better suited to mid-season use.Gripping ski poles and opening doors don’t require nimble fingers. Tying knots and operating equipment are a different story. Mountaineers and mountain ops would be wise to choose gloves designed to maximize dexterity. These have earned a reputation for warmth and durability, which is why they’re trusted by mountain guides and outdoor professionals the world over. If you need to crank up the heat even further, Hestra offers a wool glove liner or mitten liner (sold separately) that brings these very close to the warmth of the Army Leather Extreme mitten. All measurements are in inches, except for ladies' sizes. NOTE THESE ARE A ROUGH GUIDE ONLY AND NOT SPECIFIC TO A PARTICULAR BRAND! Size Across all price ranges, you’ll have the choice between gloves that are made with or without removable liners. In general, gloves with removable liners will be slightly warmer but are a little bulkier and less dexterous. For us, the most compelling reason to choose a glove with a liner is that it’s more adaptable to different temperatures. You can wear the shell on a warm spring day and use both (or swap out other liners you may own) for the rest of the season. Another benefit is that it’s easier to dry out the gloves if they happen to get wet by separating the two pieces. And as a bonus, if you get a glove with thin liners (like the Dakine Titan), you can use them for activities like cold-weather running or driving. Removable liners may add bulk but they are certainly versatile Fit and Sizing For days when no amount of insulation will keep you warm, the Power Heater adds rechargeable battery-powered hand warmers to the equation. The goat leather palm is incredibly rugged, while the Flextron 4-way stretch softshell is flexible enough to give this burly glove an easy grip on ski poles.

Although some models are only available as gloves, many are also available in a mitten option, which will benefit from better thermal efficiency. A handful are offered in a 3 finger design that splits the difference, offering the warmth of mittens while freeing your index finger for tasks like adjusting your ski boots or strapping into a snowboard. Environments Skiing/Snowboarding How to Size Your Hestra Gloves and Mittens, you should be able to find the perfect gloves in the right size, the first time. The addition of a polyester liner makes these non-insulated gloves a great choice for those who run hot, or as a low profile option for mild spring days. The warmest of the Ergo Grip family, these insulated gloves are perfect for mid season touring and other applications where a precise grip is critical to success.

It’s worth noting that relying on your hand circumference isn’t a foolproof process, as the sizing doesn’t account for finger length, so it’s always ideal to try them on before purchasing. But if you need to buy online or just prefer the convenience, following the manufacturer-specific fit guidelines (avoid generic charts) and buying from a reputable ski retailer with a good return policy is a smart way to go. It's best to try ski gloves on before buying if possible Additional Ski Glove Features Still, despite customer satisfaction, Hestra decided to alter the design of the Fall Line in 2021, adding a fully removable liner. Again all measurements are in inches. NOTE THESE ARE A ROUGH GUIDE ONLY AND NOT SPECIFIC TO A PARTICULAR BRAND! Size Adding a waterproof-breathable GORE-TEX liner and GORE Grip technology to the Heli equation, these are extremely weather resistant and offer enhanced dexterity, making them one of the finest gloves available for mountaineering use. Once you’ve found the perfect pair of ski gloves, you’ll also need to make sure the sizing and cut suits you. A too-tight fit can cut off blood circulation, while a too-loose fit will compromise warmth and add bulk.

You won't find a more economical glove option than the Kincos, and this system works surprisingly well if the conditions aren't too cold or wet. It's best to step up to a more waterproof design in the wet snow of the Pacific Northwest, but the gloves are a great match for areas with dry snow like Colorado and Utah. Don't forget to grab a PBR at the lodge to complete your get-up, and per tradition, retire them at the end of the season and repeat. The Freeride series takes premium features like a supple leather shell with flex panels and synthetic G-Loft insulation, and adds Hestra’s waterproof-breathable CZone liner, making them perfectly suited to damp climates and wet snow. They're meant to be functional, durable, flexible, and it's all of those things," another tester said after regularly wearing the gloves for two months. "My hands have always been warm and never felt inhibited or 'clunky,' which can sometimes happen with gloves like these." We did notice during testing that those who normally like to wear additional liners or hand warmers may want to consider sizing up to give themselves more mobility.

Many skiers and boarders struggle to decide between gloves and mittens. Gloves own the dexterity crown, but mittens reign supreme on the warmth front. Lobster-style mitts, or three-finger gloves, are an attempt at uniting the best of both worlds. We don’t love every pair of glove-mitten hybrids on the market, but Hestra simply nailed it with the Fall Line. You won’t find a more beautiful ski glove than the Hestra Fall Line 3-Finger. This all-leather, undercuff design with exposed stitching is a work of art. It’s a great tribute to Hestra’s long history of glove making, and in addition to skiing, the Fall Line 3-Finger and standard glove model are among our favorite options for everyday wear and work in the winter. It’s true that the Fall Line isn’t for everyone as warmth and water resistance fall noticeably short of the Oyuki Pep above (it’s best for mild days or those working up some heat), but you won’t find a better-made mitt. Period. The Fall Line is a great glove in so many ways, though offering a high amount of warmth isn't one of those ways. We see this as a positive in the sense that maybe extreme warmth is not what you're after, or a negative, as they are bomber, but on the thinner side of the spectrum, offering less insulation than many of the contenders in our review. Don't get us wrong; these gloves still offer warmth, and we were comfortable when wearing them in 10-15F temperatures. If these temperatures sound ideal to you, and dexterity and durability are what you're looking for, the Fall Line's level of warmth might be perfect.
