Though they did not know it, both companies had fired the first rounds in a battle that would become a two-decade-long flavour war. By the end of the 1960s, the crisp market had doubled. I don't remember them changing either and I used to buy crisps on the way home from school from the late 70's onwards There are of course plenty of crisps out there that are safe for Coeliacs, there isn't just Walkers crisps out there! Seabrooks is usually the brand I go for as all flavours are labelled gluten free and they are ridiculously nice! There are a few other brands such as Kettles who label all theirs with gluten free

This is getting even weirder, so Golden Wonder claim Walkers changed, but Walkers deny ever doing so........also, if it was infact the mid 80s that they changed, I would have no memory of it as I wasn't born until 86.........I remember it happening in the mid to late 90s. Founded in 1947, by the 1960s Golden Wonder was the biggest crisp brand in Britain, overtaking Smiths. [1] They were overtaken by Walkers who are the No.1 crisp brand in the UK. [1] History [ edit ]

I remember the golden wonder crisps being the 'wrong' colour... Its the first thing that came to mind when i read the OP. I was born in 1980 so not really sure how i could have such a strong memory of it if they really did change mid-eighies? Maybe im just getting old. At Golden Wonder our crisps are fully flavoured from the way we cook them, to our tongue tingling seasonings! Sainsburys is my favourite for crisps, I just have to get their own brand Bacon Rashers as they don't contain wheat. They have lots of other gluten free crisps too.Disparity between the brands is confusing shoppers and causing them to mistakenly buy the wrong flavour. a b City, Our (28 May 2002). It’s not clear who came up with the first flavoured crisps (ask any crisp company of sufficiently advanced years and they’ll say, ‘It was us’), but Ireland’s Tayto have a better claim than most with their early-doors cheese and onion circa 1957, with Golden Wonder following suit soon after. All Seabrooks flavours are gluten free so they are a great crisp to go for, these are flavours currently available.
