Matured for 18 years in various ex bourbon and sherry casks, this rich and full bodied single malt is a pleasantly sweet and warm malt produced at the oldest distillery on the Isle of Skye.Established in 1881, Bunnahabhain whiskies are renowned for their unpeated or lightly peated character, a departure from the typical peaty nature associated with Islay whiskies. The Isle of Islay isn't always about the heavily peated monsters that thousands of enthusiasts flock to the island for every year. Many vigorously hyped whiskies barely justify the SRP, never mind any markup above (or multiple of) that ask. This feels like one that would disappear dangerously quickly (in light of the high bottling strength), as it is so delicious and enjoyable to drink.These contributions to my whisky library are dwarfed, however, by the amount of whisky generously shared with me by strangers. Palate: Notes of mellow sherried nuts, dried fruit and rich oak, with toffee and a slight tang of salt from its maturation of 18yrs at the coast. Bunnahabhain is one of the largest distilleries in Islay, with four pot stills with 30,000 L capacity, producing more than 2M liters of pure spirit per year. Matured exclusively in ex-sherry casks in our coastal warehouses at the distillery, non-chill filtered and natural colour, this is a rich and sweet dram.
