About this deal

I can't remember the last time a book made me feel such an all-consuming, visceral hatred for a character. The story has some interesting twists and turns and I have to say it has a good, solid plot that will keep you entertained from the beginning. I don’t know what this says about me, but I was kind of disappointed that we never truly got to see what Jack was capable of. By shifting between the revelatory rather than romantic honeymoon and Grace’s life in the present, when Jack keeps her locked in their beautiful Spring Eaton home, Paris underscores Grace’s seemingly unassailable predicament, especially with Millie soon coming to live with the couple.

Behind Closed Doors is both unsettling and addictive, as I raced through the pages to find out Grace’s fate. But then again, it was so clever and effective the way the author had Grace happily heading off to the airport by herself, and it kept me incredibly tense and curious about what had happened and whether she truly would be free. Grace feels like their new neighbor, Esther, may see more into their marriage than others do, but she cannot be sure and she cannot risk saying something to Esther and getting into trouble with Jack.

Luckily, he is involved in a high profile, time-consuming case that, as court draws nearer, starts to wear on his mind. Adam, Diane and all other peripheral characters are similarly one-dimensional; never questioning anything and always just in awe of Jack - never wondering about him at 40 with no sign of wife, girlfriend or partner; or the absolute perfectness of his marriage to Grace; or the fact that Grace never leaves the house or Jack's side.

He is compared to looking like George Clooney so normal circumstances would have him having to push off the women. Even though I am attractive, Jack's film-star good looks mean that people think I'm lucky he wanted to marry me. At first the fact the events from the past happened only a year before the events from the preset seemed a little odd to me, but as the story progressed I ended up liking this aspect. When Grace Harrington meets Jack Angel in Regent’s Park in London, he seems like the perfect man—smart, kind, and even more attractive than George Clooney. And later I felt empathy for Grace's growing confusion and horror at Jack's 360° character change following their marriage, even though we got a hint of this early on. maybe ive been reading some pretty farfetched mysteries/thrillers lately, but this felt pretty realistic and plausible, which is probably why i enjoyed it so much.It was unbelievable that Jack could wield so much influence, but it worked for the storyline I suppose. However, if you are looking for a dark, edgy read but are put off by the lack of depth in this one - try The Butterfly Garden instead. Set in large grounds at the far end of the village, it gives Jack the privacy he craves, as well as the privilege of owning the most beautiful house in Spring Eaton. And yes, themovie rights f …more Be"hind Closed Doors is a stand alone book, I have another book coming out next year 'The Breakdown' but it isn't a sequel. While I can’t say I loved this one, I liked it enough to consider reading another book from this author.
