I love detail, meaning and purpose, which is why I love infographics, everything on the page has meaning and purpose down to the minutiae. Building on my foundation of 20 years as a designer and illustrator for print, this project pushed me to new levels of technical ability and skill sets.As the revelation of the task before me increased so did the team, it grew from 3 to 7 and at the final count in 2018, 57 people had been involved in making this book possible (see pp 216-217). I’m blown away by the intricacies of these graphics and am so glad a resource like this exists for the more visual among us— it’s incredible! Having said that there are some useful images, and there are some which I might want to refer to if a specific question came up. I am still blown away by the unbelievable honour to even have been invited to pitch for this job, never mind being it’s author. While they talked I had to think (with a bucket load of help from the Holy Spirit) how do we turn that knowledge and information into data that can be analysed and designed to reveal key elements of that subject.The Infographic Bible: Visualizing the Drama of God’s Word” by Karen Sawrey is a marvelous new book from Zondervan. The process began with gathering a team of people who would support the project and be the scaffold to allow an infographic to be created. Postage-stamp size, this doesn’t tell you much; but, seen as a large two-page spread, it would reveal itself as a diagram ( see above) about the “wisdom, initiative, and opportunity” of women of influence in the Old Testament, produced with the aim of “engaging a visual generation”.
