Redemption is sometimes earned by death, which is not only brave of these characters to embrace, but also of the author. The last fifth of the book disappears so quickly and improbably that it really took me out of the story and left me disappointed. Beyond the gates is a project aimed at the discovery and protection of Italy’s architectural and artistic heritage.

The plan will explore the issues they are facing and short and long term goals will be set to help build and sustain positive change. Some of the characters were very memorable, and I still like the philosophical/heroic speeches that pepper the text. Or maybe Scaler, who tries so hard to become the Prince of the Bronze, even if he only pretends to be such figure? He was very much still finding his footing as a professional author with this one coming off of a surprise success, and I don't think there's much about it that's going to be memorable and stick with me. The philosophical aspects of the story are introduced in a non-intrusive way that never bogs the story down.

The case now became more serious, and as a result the police had to question all witnesses of whom I was one. This book is a sensitively told story of a boy named Dylan and his granddad, of friendship and family healing through granddad's fantastic stories (and plenty of Dylan's questions and internal reasoning)! I am moved in a philosophical way by the cause and the massive casualty, but unmoved emotionally for lack of a personal connection.
