About this deal

This has a superb nose of rich, ripe berry fruit with the typical slightly austere and firm reserve of Dow.

If you want to take your time, bed down deep into an arm chair, and snuggle up away from the cold, then the Ramos Pinto RP20 20 year old tawny port is truly worth taking your time over. The palate is super-smooth on the entry with plush, saturated tannins, quite spicy and peppery with an assertive, structured finish that is quintessentially Dow's.Dows Fine Ruby Port is the youngest of the Dow’s wood-aged Ports, having been aged approximately 3 years in oak cask. This firmly-structured, classic, tightly-knit, restrained port exhibits brilliant purity as well as impressive intensity. James Suckling of Wine Spectator tasted a Dow’s port over a hundred years after its bottling, an 1896, and described it as: “…an amazing ruby colour with a garnet edge, it smelled of raisins, black pepper and berries. The 2015 Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira Vintage Port was produced from one co-fermented lagar of Touriga Franca and Sousão (0. One of the classic Douro riverside quintas, Senhora da Ribeira was acquired by George Warre for Dow’s in 1890. Dow's owns the Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira vineyards and, using these, even on undeclared years produces some truly superb Single Quinta port wines.Dow's is a family-owned Port house that has been producing traditional-style Port for more than 200 years, despite war, disease and economic turbulence. Intoxicating floral fragrance that filled the room, during its nine hour decant; accented by anise, plum and raspberry notes and a bit of spirit. The Douro Valley produces full-bodied and concentrated dry red Portuguese wines made from the same set of grape varieties used for Port, which include Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz (Spain’s Tempranillo), Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão, among a long list of others in minor proportions. Made with a blend of wines that have spent four years in oak, it’s then bottled unfiltered, and cellared for a further three years to let it improve. Deep red in colour, this feels a little thinner in texture than some others on our list, but the wine itself really comes through.
